What's Up in the Garden

Filed under: Uncategorized — bob @ 3:50 pm

I thought you might be interested in seeing some photos I took a couple of days ago during that record breaking warm spell. Here are just a few of the things happening this week.

These are part of a 90 foot long crocus bed with some tulips mixed in:

Crocus.

Look here, some early daffodils already have their flower buds up and ready to go:

The ‘Black Watch’ Hollyhocks have been out of the ground for quite a while now:

Black Watch Hollyhocks.

What does this tulip think its doing? 2999 of its brothers and sisters in this bed are still waiting to bloom:

First tulip.

The rhubarb is awake now too:

Rhubarb.

That lettuce mix I planted back on March 13th is doing fine:

Have you had a chance to see what’s up in your garden?

  2. Vanessa, Thanks for sharing with all of us your observations about happenings in your garden. Sounds like your garden is going “great guns”! :) You are well ahead of us on the radishes, we haven’t even planted ours yet. We’ll try to keep posting photos of various things in our gardens.

  4. By now the soil has absorbed quite a bit of heat which should get all of those baby plants through the cold snap OK. They can’t take cold with long periods of moisture though. The good part is that those seedlings are by nature able to tolerate the cold and even thrive.

  5. I have been scouring my new backyard to see what will come up for us, we just bought the house in December. So far one lone Crocus and some hyacinth. Next year will be a different story, I plan on doing some planting this year.

  6. It’s fun watching things come up after the long winter, isn’t it? This may sound like a cliche`, but it never ceases to amaze me how spring unfolds. I hope you find some pleasant suprises in your new surroundings as this season progresses.
