I worry about the bees too. Today, in a different location, I looked around at all of the dandelions, trees and shrubs blooming and did not see even one honey bee.
I agree with you, if the tree is basically sound and not ready to blow over in a storm, that’s probably the best place for them. Some beekeepers will “capture” a hive like that (to place in their own apiary) if it is not too high up.

Looking at your photos evokes the smell and the sound…I worry about the bees. One of my garden clients has a big old bee hive in the top of one of his dead trees. I told him to leave it alone as the bees are endangered!
